- I am Alex Gourevitch, currently a Ph.D student in political science at Columbia University. I used to work as a political journalist, and still publish from time to time. I started this blog as a way of breathing something other than the rarefied air of the ivory tower. I think the boundary between the public domain and academia is too artificially and starkly drawn. Unlike many personal blogs, I don't intend to comment on everything that pops into my head. I have a few specific interests and debates that I want to stay close to - American politics, environmentalism, human rights and foreign policy, and the war on terror. I used to co-edit a blog called Against the War on Terror (www.againstwot.com), so occasionally I'll revive those topics as well.
